A major winter storm taking aim on a large portion of the country began dumping very heavy snows across Kansas late Friday evening. A heavy, wet snow began to fall and accumulate very quickly with snow rates of 1-2″ an hour common. Due to the rain that fell earlier in the day, K-DOT crews were unable to treat the roads until the snow had begun to fall, thus many drivers ran into issues traveling along the highways. I-70 was covered in a couple inches of snow and lead to several spin outs, including a semi that ended up in the median near Ellis.
